Edward Mackay Contractors is one of Scotland’s leading and most respected civil engineering firms, relied upon for providing groundworks, earth moving services, transportation, heavy duty plant and equipment, aggregate and specialised construction services in support of some of the country’s biggest infrastructure projects.
We enjoy sharing our company’s success story. The company profile today is very different to when it was founded back in 1958 by Edward Mackay in the coastal village of Brora in the North East Highlands of Scotland as a haulage contractor.

Hard-working and enterprising, Edward was not afraid to diversify to fill demands, and today he oversees a highly successful, still growing, operation ably supported by his son and grandsons.
This remains a truly family run business at heart, but nowadays it provides employment for a carefully chosen trained, efficient and committed multi-skilled local workforce of several dozen. We are also main sponsors of Brora Rangers Football Club, which makes us even more important to the local area!
Our personnel are backed up by a huge fleet of heavy-duty plant and machinery and haulage vehicles, working across Scotland on an array of impressive projects from power-lines and wind farms to schools, bridges and roads.

Over the years our expertise has led to our involvement in some high-profile, important projects across Scotland, all managed from our bases in Brora and Beauly with our in-house teams and some approved supply chain partners when necessary.
We became specialist windfarm contractors after 1996 when we undertook infrastructure works for the Highland’s first windfarm at Novar, Evanton, using environmentally friendly techniques which have since become the model on which windfarm delivery in Scotland is based.
We also accomplished a major part in the Beauly-Denny Transmission Line Project, installing access track, managing quarry borrow pits and numerous other works. This project earned us a sub-contractor award for excellence from principal contractor Balfour Beatty.
We’re trusted by clients across Scotland for efficiency and reliability for many undertakings like these, no matter how complicated the logistics or remote the location. We’ve also proved ourselves competent and capable of working with appropriate care and consideration in environmentally sensitive locations.
