EDWARD MACKAY CONTRACTORS
The sourcing, crushing and screening of various grades of aggregates – things like gravel, crushed stone, and sand – are operations that are of fundamental importance to the construction industry, because they provide the building blocks with which to create structures like roads and buildings.
Our home base of Brora – a coastal village on Scotland’s north west coast – has an industrial past having once sported a coal mine, salt pans, textile industry and quarries. The quarrying in Brora is still important, and it is from our main quarry that we are able to source, supply and deliver aggregates to construction sites across mainland Scotland.
Being a leading haulage company in Scotland, as well as ourselves being experienced civil engineering contractors, we are uniquely placed to be able to offer construction companies a range of high-quality, dry, clean and uniform aggregates of various grades, crushed and screened to perfection by our own well-maintained machinery, for delivery to wherever it is needed across the Scottish mainland.
EDWARD MACKAY CONTRACTORS
As Contractors on some major renewable energy projects (including wind farms and electrical transmission lines) we are only too aware of the fact that it is more environmentally friendly and cost effective to source aggregates on site rather than rely on imported material.
On our own civil engineering infrastructure projects we regularly use our own mobile crushing and screening equipment and resources to establish on-site borrow pits to source aggregate material for carrying out our contracts, and we are also able to offer this service for other construction companies across Scotland.
We hire out our top of the range mobile crushing plants with highly trained operators to extract and process aggregate on site for our clients’ projects, each contract being carefully planned and executed on a bespoke basis after close consultation with the construction company involved.

Over the years it has become apparent to us while working on our own projects, and to our clients, that mobile crushing and screening machinery offers significant advantages, particularly in Scotland where infrastructure is being built in often remote, hard to access areas.
Moving our mobile crushing and processing machinery onto the construction site obviates the need to keep importing raw materials, or to transport material from the site to a centralised crushing and screening facility and then back again over what is, in Scotland, often inhospitable terrain.
On-site processing therefore minimises logistical challenges, saves time, reduces transport costs and the associated carbon emissions.
Over the course of a lengthy construction project these benefits accumulate and add up to having a very positive impact on the efficiency of the project as a whole.
If mobile crushing and screening equipment seems like an attractive choice for optimising your construction operations and project outcomes, give us a call to find out more.
